Have you noticed that charity shops just don't actually feel that cheap anymore? You're not imagining it and here's a few reasons why. The first reason this is happening is because charity shops just cost more to run now than they used to. Rent, energy, bills, insurance. Even though most people in there are volunteers, it still costs a lot to keep the charity shops running. Secondly, secondhand fashion is a lot more mainstream now. Charity shops know about brands, quality and how to actually price them. So if a skirt costs £40 brand new, naturally it can't be going for £4 if a charity shop can make more money, which is going towards charity anyway. Thirdly, more people are thrifting than ever before. And with that comes demand and higher prices. That said, I will never stop charity shopping. And if I think an item is worth that price, I will always pay for it. But don't get me wrong, I do not agree with pricing items from Shein etc. for like £10.
