There's a restaurant in London I can never show my face in again And I'm finally ready to tell the story Okay in order to tell the story I actually have to give some background context of a meal that I've been out to with this specific group of friends Couple months prior we had gone for a meal at the Ivy Asia which is obviously quite a well known restaurant When you go to the Ivy Asia they've got these fish chopstick holders They're beautiful They're like brass chopstick holders That's like fish's tail going up And when you flip over this chopstick holder on the bottom it says stolen from The Ivy Asia And this actually became like a really clever marketing tool from The Idea Asia because everyone then wants to steal it And then loads of people obviously have got them in the houses they post it online and they've stolen it from the Ivy Asia And the Ivy Asia kind of allows it Like they've got loads of running jokes on social media about the fact that like yeah fine it's acceptable you can steal them So I was out for dinner with this specific group of friends We all ended up stealing our chopstick holders So flashing forward to maybe three months later it is my flatmate's birthday and we go out for a lovely lunch with that same group of friends This restaurant is like a seafood restaurant To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it was owned by the Ivy brand And on the table they had these absolutely gorgeous salt and pepper shakers And we were sat there just admiring the salt and pepper shakers and I just happened to flip them upside down and seen on the bottom of the salt and pepper shakers it said pinched from X I'm not gonna name the restaurant's name because I really don't need to give myself any more embarrassment than I've already had Obviously pinched from is a funny word play because they're crabs They've got pincers But also pinched means stolen But this is quite clearly a play on the Ivy Asia's stolen from the Ivy Asia I was like to my friends oh my God it's another Ivy Asia situation We've got to pocket these salt and pepper shakers at the Ivy Asia You've gotta like subtly take them but they're not gonna tell you off for taking them right And we were like right okay this has gotta be executed well Our flatmate was like well shit we actually need to take the salt and pepper out of these before we stuff them in your handbag So we're literally there opening the bottom of these salt and pepper shakers to dump the salt and pepper out and then I very promptly stuff these shakers into my handbag I want to be clear that we literally took the message on the bottom as saying you are free to Take these And then we were sat there for quite a while And it was my flatmate's birthday so we were expecting that they would do a little like cake with a candle kind of thing that you get in any restaurant when you booked it for your birthday But nothing was happening So I was like well When I come back I'll ask I go to the maitre d Hi um it's my friend's birthday I was just wondering if it would be possible to do like a cake and a candle situation And she was like oh yeah actually I've been meaning to speak to you because we can do a cake and candle situation but only if you return the stolen salt and pepper shakers And I was like oh I'm uh I'm so sorry I didn't know that And she was just like mhm So I am like oh I'll speak to my friends Sorry I I didn't even know that they were stolen Let me let me go and speak to my friends to sort it out when they're literally in my handbag So I go to the table and I can't remember exactly what was said to my friends but I'm pretty sure that our waiter had come up and said something and they had flat out denied that we had taken them Our waiter was so offended that he refused to serve us for the rest of the meal And I was just like guys I'm sorry We've just gotta hold our hands up and return them So I just opened my handbag I put the salt and pepper shakers back on the table We have a new waiter now as soon as I put them back on the table immediately comes and just removes them from the table Not a word said Was hoping they would have a bit of a sense of humor about it but there was absolutely no sense of humor They just saw us as criminals I've never been more mortified in my entire life And they near enough booted us out of the door to get us to leave And now whenever I walk past this restaurant in London I get genuine shivers
