If I had a dollar for every single time a girl with a bigger personality told me that she found herself in a friendship where someone thought that they're dating her, so I would have so much money. I think it's a cannon event for girls with brighter personalities, more inviting personalities themselves, they're in friendships where they're being taken advantage of, especially friendships where she's like literally your boyfriend or has some kind of weird possession over you. This has happened to me. This has happened to tons of people that I know. This has happened to almost every single person I know that has like that bigger, more inviting personality that I mentioned. And when this happens, it's hard. It's hard to get this person away from you because they have such emotional attachment to you. They've completely integrated themselves into your life. So you might find yourself in a position where you share mutual friends or you might find yourself in a position where you guys are co-workers or the students in the same class. Like you literally can't avoid this person. It's always convenient for the other one because they are so integrated into your life and also just boundaries. Especially young women. I'm a senior in college this year and I have a bit more retrospect into the times where I've been in a friendship where someone was possessed everything that they could about me and my life. But the biggest takeaway that I've learned is you genuinely just have to start setting those boundaries. It's the more adulting to do, eventually this person is going to find somebody else to attach to if they can't cycle the level of attachment that they're putting into your friendship is unhealthy. So it will turn out bad for them anyway. If they get to run their course with the way that they treat you. It's not beneficial for them in the long run either. I have had so many friendships where I've genuinely questioned like, does this girl want to be me or date me? And so many women who relate to this, you just invite her into your friend group. You give her a little bit of attention, you care about this person a little bit. And then all of a sudden, she can't live without you in a unhealthy way. And every single time this has happened to me, the only thing that I could do is start clear that I wouldn't accept the kind of treatment where they were possessing me. I had a friend in early school who became extremely possessive when I started branching out and meeting new people. And the way that I remedy that was I explicitly told her, if you cannot handle me having other friends other than you, we cannot even be friends at all. And for her, that was it. She just decided it wasn't worth it to watch me be friends with other people. She just couldn't do it. So she stopped talking to me completely. And I honestly think there was a little bit of embarrassment too. But I mean, if that's what it takes to set a boundary with someone who is taking an unhealthy amount of time and your life and your energy and imposing themselves onto you, that's what you have to do.
