I had to break up with a friend because she didn't have any other friends. Originally I wasn't gonna post about this, but she literally and all of my friends on everything. Talk my shit. We met because I purchased her service, working together a lot. And over time, she started asking me to hang out outside of work. And I was like, yeah, totally, dude. Like, I'm always open to new friends. Over time, I observed that she didn't really have any other friends, which at first did not strike me as a red flag, because, like, it takes LA transplants a long time to find their people. So I started introducing her to my other friends. And I did think it was weird that she, like, never really hit it off with anyone. She would invite me to things that I wanted to do all the time, like clubs and raves. Those activities are not my first choice of activity, but she had no one else to go with, so I felt pressured. And if I said no, she'd be like, okay, well, next week, like, when can you go? In my head, I was like, okay, like doing these things, but if I continue to go out with her and we meet new people, like, maybe she'll find her people. And she would meet people, but she'd be like, mmm, no, I don't like them that much. And it started to become clear that her rigid standards for dating, extremely rigid standards, also applied to friendship. She was in a phase of life where she wanted to party, wanted to club out. I'm in a phase of life where I am a partner and I have other friends that I wasn't seeing to see her, like, at least once a week. And if I didn't see her once a week, her anxious attachment would rear its ugly head. That do you still love me? Texts. I finally reached a breaking point when she invited me to a singles event that I frankly shouldn't have been at. The singles event is its own story, but the short of it is that we went to the singles event, she asked me to go to a second location, and then she asked me to go to a third location, not want to go to a third location, which was a club. So I finally bowed out. And she told me the next time I saw her was upset with me. Her verbiage was, I only asked you for one thing. At which point I lost my mind because all you do is ask and that entire evening was for you. And again, there's like, I started from my other friends actually really mean to them. I'm feeling these feelings of being just very pressured and stressed out. My friends are like, she is kind of evil to them. And I wake up to a text from her that says, do you still love me? And I was like, I can't do this anymore. I was like, I do love you, but I cannot be anyone's everything. I explained how to her, and she basically was like, wow, wanted you to tell me that and that I'm. So the response to me telling her was basically, um, I really just need you to emotionally regulate me. And I do genuinely feel horrible that I basically have left her alone. But she didn't ever really cared about changing that I couldn't continue to be her boyfriend and her best friend and her therapist and her only support system.
