I am obsessed with farm stays and for my husband and I's first year anniversary we stayed in this gorgeous one in Portugal. A nine bedroom 18th century farmhouse on the Douro River. Since it's only nine bedrooms it has that intimate feel. It didn't feel crowded, it didn't feel busy. It felt like you genuinely were one of only a few people there. I think probably because we were. It's not a working farm but it makes its own wine and grows fruit and veg and herbs for its restaurant. Wine tasting is one of the main things that you can do here and it's so great to be able to drink the wine that came from the grapes that was grown literally right outside your window. They also have lots of other activities including paddle boarding, kayaking, you can go for a hike, rent an e-bike, you can do a buggy tour of the Douro hills. A very special experience that we had was their eight course greenhouse dinner and that was incredible. We also did the wine pairing, wine from the estate, and it was just so yummy in this gorgeous green. So there's lots to do, I would book this place if you want to chill out and do almost nothing, drink good wine, eat nice food and have an absolutely stunning view. I still to this day think the Douro Valley is so underrated. I know lots of people go to Porto and I know lots of people know Tuscany for its wine, but genuinely I've spoken to so many people and they don't really even know much about the Douro Valley. It's absolutely gorgeous. I would 100% recommend going there. So yeah, if you want to eat fresh produce and have an amazing time in a luxury farmhouse that is focused on farm-to-table and local wine, then this stay is for you. Make sure you follow along for more recommendations because I love a nice hotel, a lovely restaurant and a gorgeous farm stay.
