Day 7 of

It's day 7 of my quilting class. My quilt is back from the long arm and yesterday I taught you how to make binding and today I'm teaching you how to attach it. There are a lot of methods to teach you how to do binding. I learned from some old ladies on YouTube and I feel like after three or four quilts I finally got the hang of it. You'll need pins, quilt clips and your binding. And you'll take the raw edge of your binding and align it with the raw edge of your quilt and clip that on. Now the corners are the trickiest part, so pay attention. I draw a little square at the top of my quilt that's a quarter inch long by a quarter inch wide and then I draw a little triangle that dissects the middle. We're going to sew down that triangle, pivot and then sew down our binding at a quarter inch. Watch super closely here because the line is super tiny, but it's very important for keeping everything crisp. Once I get to my corner mark, I'm going to insert my needle, pivot and then sew down the rest of my binding at a quarter inch. Make sure you're using a quilting foot. I was not using a quilting foot here. And then you'll see here you'll have your little diagonal stitch at the top. You're going to take your binding, flip it over itself once and then flip it over itself again. Pin that down and you should have almost a little dog ear triangle in the corner. And then as you're sewing your binding onto the next side, when you get to that corner, make sure to stop right before that triangle. You want to make sure this little piece of fabric can move around like a dog ear. And you'll just repeat that step on all of your corners.
