Day 8 of

We've made it to the last episode. We've made it to the last episode of Klea's Quilting Class and today we are finally attaching the binding. In the last episode, I taught you how to attach it to the front and miter corners. And today we're joining the ends and sewing it to the back. To join the ends, make sure you have two long tails and then you're going to overlap them. Find the point where they meet and then from that point, you're going to measure your width of your binding. My binding was 2 and a quarter inches, so I'm going to measure 2 and a quarter inches out from that spot and then do that on the other piece. You'll trim the tail on the top, then open up the bottom tail, placing the right sides together at a 90 degree angle. Then you'll draw a line at 45 degrees and so down that line. And then before you trim off any excess, make sure it fits onto your quilt. Sometimes you've measured a little short or too long. Once that's trimmed, your binding is joined and you can sew that onto the rest of your quilt. And then it's time for the final and most grueling step, which is attaching the binding to the back. I like to use a glue stick to tack everything down and then I'll use clip clips. And then we are hand sewing this. I know it's a lot of work. You could definitely machine sew it, but then you'll be able to see the sewing on the front. In my opinion, hand sewing the binding just gives you the cleanest finish. It goes a lot faster than you think. It's going to take you a couple hours, maybe even a couple days if you're just chipping away at it. And it's going to be worth it.
