YOUR UPSTREAM SENSOR IS NOT STUCK YOU'RE JUST READING THE WRONG PATTERN THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF UPSTREAM SENSORS THEY LOOK SIMILAR THEY MOUNT THE SAME WAY BUT ON YOUR SCAN TOOL THEY BEHAVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE YOU HAVE YOU'LL MISDIAGNOSE BOTH OF THEM TWO DIFFERENT UPSTREAM SENSORS TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PATTERNS ON YOUR SCAN TOOL MOST TECHS TEST THEM THE SAME EXACT WAY A NARROW BAND LAMB THE PROBE UPSTREAM GENERATES ITS OWN VOLTAGE BASED OFF OF OXYGEN IN THE EXHAUST RICH CONDITION ABOUT POINT 9 VOLTS LEAN CONDITION ABOUT POINT 1 VOLTS STOICHIOMETRIC CROSSES .45 VOLTS ON A CONSTANT SWITCH YOU MIGHT ALSO KNOW IT AS A ZIRCONIA O2 SENSOR AND IT SWITCHES RAPIDLY BACK AND FORTH MULTIPLE TIMES PER SECOND IN THAT SWITCHING IS FUEL CONTROL ON A WIDE BAND AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR UPSTREAM IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IT DOESN'T GENERATE ITS OWN VOLTAGE THE PCM APPLIES A REFERENCE VOLTAGE AND IT READS PUMP CURRENT IT DOES NOT SWITCH IT MOVES LINEARLY TOYOTA'S 3.3 VOLTS AT STOIC ON YOUR SCAN TOOL ABOVE 3.3 IT'S LEAN BELOW 3.3 IT'S RICH NISSAN 1.5 VOLTS AT STOIC SAME RULE DIFFERENT REFERENCE SO HERE'S WHERE TEXT GET IT WRONG THEY SEE THAT THE WIDE BAND IS SITTING STEADY NEAR STOIC AT IDLE AND CALL IT A LAZY OR STUCK O2 IT'S NOT STUCK THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT A HEALTHY WIDE BAND SHOULD LOOK LIKE IF YOU'RE EXPECTING A WIDE BAND TO SWITCH LIKE A NARROW BAND YOU'RE TESTING THE WRONG SENSOR WITH THE WRONG EXPECTATION I'LL SEE YOU ON THE NEXT ONE
