If you do not self report a three colleges will assume that you got a one or a two. This is going to be especially the case if you have literally no reason that shines through for why you might not have taken that exam. Some common reasons that colleges see and try to infer that maybe you didn't take the exam is if you are low income or if you come from a marginalized community or if your high school makes you pay for AP exams and that is the norm for students at your school to not take all of the exams and just prioritize a few here and there. If you do not fit any of these categories and you did not have some long-term illness that you are documenting in your college application, it's related to your major, even if you are applying for an Ivy League college, you should always self report that score. I know a lot of people choose to report a score based on if the college is going to give them credit for that score or not. But I think that from a college admissions point of view, like just trying to get into the college, you should always report threes, fours and fives, even if your college does not give you credit for those scores. And finally, I have said this before, but I will say it again until it sinks in. Students get into top colleges withholding a one or a two there all the time and students get into top colleges reporting threes all the time. The time.
