Versed just sold and nobody printed the price. I'm going to tell you what I think. first the buyer in the transaction is Belle Brands. Belle is a platform Windsong Global and Windsong is a private equity firm that's been known and buy brands that need to be resuscitated for some reason. and Belle Brands the buyer here got assembled out of the Amyris meltdown. if you recall what happened to Amyris it was wild but essentially their own brands and burned cash like it grew on trees so they ended up going through their own bankruptcy. and then Windsong bought JVN Hair by Jonathan Van Ness out of that bankruptcy for 1.25 million. they also bought Pipette for 1.75 million. Belle Brands Today is Teresa Lo who came from Amyris so she's the thread of why that went down. and so now today Versed is the fourth they've acquired. but Versed is far from distressed. they're in over 6600 retail doors but it's also seven years venture backed. the last reported revenue came in in 2023 and that was somewhere between 30 to 50 million. there's also the white space that Versed invented got eaten. CeraVe went cult. Elf Beauty bought Naturium for $355 million. really clean beauty stopped being a differentiator around 2023. Power's other brand Merit did around $200 million last year with Goldman running a process to potentially sell that. so really Versed is the quiet exit. Merit will be & let me know if you think this is how the deal went down or you have other opinions about it! this isn't a fire sale but it's also very likely they would have hoped for. so I'm Sammi breaking down the news that you need to know and the hottest business lore. so follow along for more
