What My Parents Taught Me About MONEY That Schools Didn't Becca Bloom did this video and we grew up in the same area so I thought I would too. My high school tuition cost more than going to Stanford. They knew what college you go to sets you up for the rest of your life and what you do in high school determines what college you get into. My parents always said the biggest returns comes from investing earlier in the chain. So instead of helping me pay for college, they decided to pay for an expensive high school instead. I ended up getting in my dream school where they only selected 20 students in the world which landed me my dream job. My parents literally told me to treat myself like a startup. Not pay off all my student loans immediately, even though I could and use that money to invest in myself instead. They basically were like in your 20s when it compounds the most, don't give all your money to the government. What you invest in yourself will be worth way more now than the money you lose on interest delaying payments. And I made six figures when I graduated. So I could have easily paid it all off. So I used that money to build my business and invest in my stock portfolio that's already returned 10 times more than what I would have lost in interest. They also told me to pay for my first internship. I got my first internship at the Naval Postgraduate School which was in Monterey and was way too far from where I lived. Paying for housing was gonna cost way more than the stipend they were paying me. So I ended up way negative and effectively had to pay for the internship. But they told me to do it anyways over the job I got at the mall because it looked much better on my resume. That internship set me a well for my next one and compounded into a lot more earnings in the long run than I lost in the short term.
