Birdie’s x-rays💔🤯🩻 When the x-rays appeared on the screen, the room fell silent and then both vets let out a sigh... a sigh I could easily distinguish was not a sigh of relief, more like a sigh of “holy shit”. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The x-rays show that Birdie’s vertebral column is split in two parts. The specialists we’ve talked to are all in agreement, the damage is irreversible, and there’s no chance of restoring function to Birdie’s back legs. Over the next week, we’ll be working on putting together the best surgical plan for her. Surgery won’t be to make her walk on all 4 legs again, it will be to give her the best possible quality of life moving forward. It sounds like that might mean amputation, it might not, we will weigh every option. Our hearts absolutely break thinking about what she must have endured when this happened and the fact that she survived, healed, and somehow kept moving all on her own is insane! But more than anything, we’re just grateful she isn’t facing any of this alone anymore. She’s safe, she’s deeply loved, and we’re going to do everything we can to give her the happiest, healthiest life possible! Thank you for loving this sweet girl right alongside us🐾🫶🏼 We will keep you all posted with what the plan is as we figure it out!
