Panel wiring! A great skill and one that is highly encouraged to learn about automation. But damn, it’s slow and can be pretty boring when you want to get on with the exciting bit… programming! Problem with panel wiring is it can be extremely time consuming if you’re not geared up for it. And we’re not. We don’t build enough to justify full automated label printers, automated wire strippers and crimpers. Not yet anyway… So once this is built and tweaked, it will be standardised. We can outsource some of the panel build in the future. For now, we must plod on and do what we can. This needs doing, and this panel will be built better than previous panels. It is better planned, the drawings are nearly complete. There’s more space. It will set the standard going forward and apprentices will be shown the expected levels to work to in the future. This will become a demonstrator machine and an opportunity to teach, learn and grow our own team. From wiring, to PLC programming, to HMI integration and screen design, to Yaskawa robot programming. It will enable us to do more as a team. So, whilst it’s at its boring stage, this is a project I am proud to start because it means more than just me.
