How I Use AI Loops

Now if you don't know what AI loop engineering is, it involves building a system so that AI can run itself instead of being reliant on you. So with traditional AI prompting, you are asking AI one thing at a time and every round has to run back through you first. You enter a prompt, get an output, tweak output, repeat, and then finally get something that works. But a loop runs those rounds on its own. You hand the AI a goal and a way to grade itself, and then it just keeps drafting and fixing until it reaches a stopping point that you set for it. Now to give you an idea of the power of loops, Boris Cherny, the engineer who built Claude Code, said he doesn't even prompt anymore because loops let the loops do the work for him. This skill of designing loops is becoming a real money maker these days, but you don't have to be an AI engineer to start using them. I'm not an engineer at all, but I have built loops to write my LinkedIn posts for me and actually for most of my AI writing tasks these days. So here's how I set them up. You're going to have three parts to a loop. Save this. Part one, objective. The objective part is what good looks like. Which for me, in this example, could be teach my audience about AI loops in under 250 words. Part two, metric. The metric is how the AI scores its own draft instead of waiting on my feedback. It can be whether the first line gets somebody to click on this see more button, whether the language is clear enough, or whether a smart reader would actually learn something from this. Part three, boundary. The boundary runs before the AI checks in on the result, which in this case is 10 passes before the AI brings me the top three results. Now, once those are set, the AI drafts, grades itself, rewrites, grades itself, rewrites me, whatever's weak, and then hands me the three finalists.
