Original Video Credit: IG/dawnmarkel Two wooden planks are positioned between a pickup truck and a landscaped garden bed as a massive boulder is carefully eased toward the edge. With a gentle push from a pry bar, the rock slides down the ramps and settles neatly into place without heavy machinery. The wooden ramps reduce the vertical drop while gravity provides the force needed to move the boulder downhill. A pry bar gives the person in the truck additional mechanical advantage, allowing the rock to be controlled with small, deliberate movements instead of brute strength. Simple machines such as inclined planes and levers have been used for thousands of years to move heavy objects more efficiently. By reducing the amount of force required and improving control, they make it possible to handle loads that would otherwise be nearly impossible to move safely by hand.
