Original Video Credit: IG/air_quality_ac An HVAC technician pulls an illuminated UVC lamp from inside an air handling system, exposing the normally enclosed light. These lamps are commonly installed near evaporator coils and other damp areas where microbial growth can develop. UVC lamps emit short wavelength ultraviolet radiation that can inactivate microorganisms by damaging their genetic material. Inside HVAC equipment, this can help control microbial growth on irradiated surfaces such as cooling coils and drain pans. The same radiation that makes these lamps useful also makes direct exposure hazardous. UVC can injure the eyes and skin, which is why germicidal lamps should be switched off before servicing and operated only with the appropriate safeguards. No copyright infringement intended.
