People see a ‘budgeting’ account and assume I’m poor. What they don’t see is ..
I have nearly £6k in savings split between savings pots and emergency savings.
I spend less every month so that I can have a safety set for emergencies then sinking funds for Christmas, holidays, car repairs, school uniform and days to treat myself.
Our modest three bed house that I bought in 2017 isn’t anything fancy. But our mortgage is £250 a month and we are nearly halfway through paying it off.
That means more money in our pockets every month 💰
I am planning for our future, we all went to retire early right? Recently I’ve got a grip on my workplace pension, learning about investing and getting serious about my savings. Our state pension won’t be guaranteed and it feels like they keep raising the retirement age.
Fail to prepare and prepare to fail.
I spend time every week doing our meal plan, shopping list and sorting out the kitchen cupboards. It can be a bit tedious but the last two weeks our food shops for the three of us have been less than £80. Everyone I speak to spends between £150-200 a week!!
It might be tedious but my I’m spending 50% less on food than my peers and practically zero food waste!
My car is 7 years old but there is absolutely no reason to upgrade her. I have a small finance payment that is nearly paid off and I look after her with regular maintenance, servicing and car washes etc.
I could have a brand new car with a massive car payment but I would rather have savings instead!
When I say overconsumption is killing your finances, I mean it.
We are constantly buying water bottles, clothes, skincare and even food! How many snacks and takeaways do you actually need 😂
Have a word with yourself everytime you buy something and watch how quickly you can build £1000 emergency fund by just not spending money every day!
