10 foods our clients eat on repeat while healing LPR and GERD. None of these are magic. They work because they share the same traits: low acidity, low fat, and fiber. High-fat meals slow stomach emptying and lower LES pressure, which gives acid more time and room to travel up. Lean, plant-forward, fiber-rich foods do the opposite. Flax meal (ground flaxseed). Soluble fiber that forms a soothing gel, plus plant-based omega-3s. Bananas. Low acid and rich in pectin, gentle on already-irritated tissue. Melon (cantaloupe, honeydew). Alkaline and hydrating, easy on a sensitized esophagus. Leafy greens (spinach, romaine, kale). Low fat, alkaline, and fiber-dense. Ginger. Anti-inflammatory and supports gastric motility. A little goes a long way. Fennel. Soothing and motility-supporting, lovely roasted or shaved raw. Wild salmon. Omega-3s to support a calmer inflammatory response, plus quality protein. Skinless poultry. Lean protein that digests without the high-fat drag on your LES. Sweet potato. Fiber-rich, gentle complex carb that digests easily without adding to your acid load. Cooked zucchini, green beans, and carrots. Gentle, low-acid, and easy to digest. This is strategic addition. You are building a plate that actively supports your barrier, meal by meal. A plant-forward, Mediterranean-style pattern held up well in the research: in 184 LPR patients, a 90% plant-based Mediterranean diet worked at least as well as PPIs for symptom relief (Zalvan et al., 2017, JAMA Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg, PMID 28880991).
