Here are some diabolically frugal things I did while at uni to build my savings. Hi guys, I've managed to build 28k in my net worth while at uni. I got into investing and here are some of the things I did along the way. Firstly, I farmed bank switching and opening student accounts. As I kid you not, I've made at least 3 grand from this now and I did it in my first two years of uni, especially making 200 pound every few weeks. It was such a booster and it was very savvy of me. And I tell you that I bought everything on Vinted. And I'm not just talking, I'm talking board games to my uni house, I'm talking room decor, lamps and things. There is nothing I don't think I would not buy on Vinted. On that same note, I was very strategic with when I would buy my university like supplies and notebooks and stationery and things. I would buy stuff well ahead for the next year of uni so that I wasn't buying when they're obviously a lot more expensive. A pretty savvy one was signing up to Amazon Prime because you get 6 months free as a student. I was also pretty strategic with this and made sure I did it around friends birthdays. If I needed to order a present for them, I could get free delivery and free next day delivery on that. That was really useful and I'd recommend checking that if you're a student. I would check Uni Days and Student Beans religiously for the on eating out. Of course, I like to do things with friends, I don't completely deprive myself for the sake of saving money, but when I am going out, I do like to get a good deal. I remember getting a bottomless brunch for about 20 pound at Turtle Bay when they had that deal on one month. And also using apps like The Fork allows you to make reservations last minute and then get sometimes half price on your dinners. This one might sound a bit extreme, but it did work out and I would recommend this to anyone. And that is applying for grants and scholarships. Look on: Black bullion, Santander Academy, your university intranet, or look through your faculty/school. Just so you know, you don't have to be from a low income household for all scholarships. Of course, there are lots of them out there for people from low income households, but there are still scholarships for specific things. For example, I applied for one for economics, which is what I study, and I actually won it. I was the only student in the UK and it was 4,000 pounds. So as you can imagine, that insanely boosted me up and really contributed to the net worth I've built today. Today I would only go drinking at Wetherspoons. I feel like that one doesn't really need an explanation. And I was investing from the very beginning. I don't know if you consider that savvy, but of course, that has helped me build up my investments by starting early and creating that regular habit, even while I've been a student. If you love all things money, motivation, side hustles, investing, personal finance, side hustling, and investing. As let's build a financially literate community and build wealth in my 20s.
