I think if people are more interested in canceling Eli Rallo for attempting to stick up for immigrants and doing so in a tone deaf way that perpetuated racial and immigrant stereotypes. Then we've completely lost the plot and we don't actually want our influencers to speak up for immigrants and do so in a tone deaf way that perpetuated racial and immigrant stereotypes. In case you missed it, Eli Rallo made a video countering the claim immigrants are taking our jobs and kind of addressed it to her way audience where it's like, no, they're not taking your well paying jobs, they're taking service industry jobs, they're taking construction jobs and it problematically reinforces the stereotype that immigrants can only perform domestic labor or service labor and are less than white professional jobs. And that's insulting and problematic and perpetuates racial stereotypes. Her intent in this video was to try and stick up for immigrants and she did so in a way that was not super politically correct, wasn't super informed, wasn't super kind. But her heart was in the right place. And I think we need to say like, hey, your heart's in the right place. That's awesome. Let's fix what you're saying. Let's explain why what you're saying was kind of incorrect. Let's keep that energy. Let's let's keep talking about immigrant issues. I just think it's unproductive to be like, oh, this influencer tried to speak up for a marginalized group. Did so in a way that wasn't super informed, wasn't super smart, wasn't super kind. We should just cancel her outright. Like, there's no redeeming quality for her. Like, what are we doing? This is an influencer who has a following of a lot of young white women and those are people that we need to be educating. And so if Eli's going to talk about immigrant rights, that's really awesome. We just need to make sure that she's doing it in the right way and call her in and give her a heads up that what she's saying is incorrect for all the reasons that I've said. But just like call her racist. Like, how is that productive? Especially when she clearly wanted to say that what she's saying is like, not productive, not informed, not super kind. But her heart was in the right place. And I think we need to say like, hey, your heart's in the right place. That's awesome. Let's fix what you're saying.
