AI made software engineering much much harder. But you might be thinking, oh, but everyone says AI made it easier because it writes all our code or if you've all our code, you have to understand something. AI took all the easy tasks from us, so all our focus is on the harder more difficult tasks. And you might think it's a good thing, right? But think about it. Really think about it. As a software engineer, I actually enjoyed receiving a ticket that I I knew how to do. So I knew I would enter flowchart. I knew that it would be a reassurance that I have a skill set. I could just grind it out some music on and really enjoy doing a ticket that I've done a million times before. But now it's boring because I have to prompt AI to do the ticket for me and that's the easy task and we're expected to focus on the higher level more difficult tasks and that's the majority of our job. The majority of our job now is all difficult tasks. We can't enjoy the easy stuff anymore. What non-tech people don't understand is that the easy tasks didn't disappear. They're still there. It's just that AI is generating the code for them. We're we're viewing it and we're responsible for it to get to prod. And when you have a lot of these easy tasks because AI speeds things up on our plate, it does take time for us and it tends to lead to prod incidence because we trip over it and we speed up and we try to be super fast-paced with it. We're not mainly writing the code. There's also a paradigm shift in tech and how people are organizing their work because it's so easy to do one small easy task and have a automatic with AI, people tend to bundle a ticket to be like 10 or 12 easy time. and then you're left with an AI slot PR that's 40 files changed and it takes the majority of an engineer's time to review. The responsibility and expectations of a software engineer are all over the place right now. I do think the bubble will burst and that it will balance eventually.
