I had steady hands, but the fight was in my mind. I stood over a patient years ago, certain of the anatomy but not certain the outcome would be good. My hands knew what to do. My mind was the part that had to be trained. So I did what I always do: I preached truth to my own brain until it agreed with me. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says it plainly, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (ESV). It's not a suggestion, it's surgical training.. For a long time science told us the adult brain was fixed. Wired by childhood, set for life, nothing to be done about it. We know better now. Neuroplasticity means your brain is still under construction, every single day, based on what you feed it. Romans 12:2 said this thousands of years before we had an MRI to prove it: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (ESV). Here’s the truth I want you to take with you: brains are built, not born. What you rehearse, you become. That’s not sentiment. That’s neurosurgery. That’s Self-Brain Surgery. It’s hard and holy work. But it’s how you build a brain that can carry you toward healing, hope, and higher performance. And since it's All-in August, I want to get after building your brain in a way that helps you. Follow me for daily neuroscience and scripture insights. Save this for the next time your mind tells you it can’t change. Share with a friend who needs to know that brains are built and not born. I’m Dr. Lee Warren, hopefully your favorite Instagram brain surgeon, "The Brain+Bible Guy."
