I had a lovely phone call with the general manager at The French Laundry this week and I was reminded of a core lesson I’ve learned while growing up. You never need to feel intimidated. We talked about the hard work that goes into creating and continuing to create something curated and special. We talked about service and kindness. This conversation stood in stark contrast to this experience I had when I was 16. I think I am going to remember this moment with the GM for many years to come. People are people and you never need to be afraid.
