I lost my best friend because she got a boyfriend and he was a loser. This is part two of seven things I hate to admit. I thought eventually she'd see what I already saw and leave on her own, but that never happened. And you can't exactly tell your friend that this new guy she's dating is the same type of dude she just left a month ago. The reason we became friends in the first place is because we'd have really awesome conversations. And then she started dating him and those conversations slowly became about him. She'd complain about him, tell me she wasn't happy and tell me all the things she wanted him to change. At first I didn't think much of it because everybody has problems in their relationships and sometimes you vent to your friends. That's totally normal. But then she started telling me that she's giving him deadlines and he has to change or she's leaving. And I remember thinking, good, she's finally setting boundaries for herself. Then the deadlines would come, he changed the tiny thing and suddenly it's become well tried. And over time, I just got sick of it, not because of him anymore, but because I realized she never followed through on the things she said she was going to do. I started getting frustrated with her and ultimately lost respect for her. That's the part I still feel guilty admitting. Because once you lose respect for someone, it's really hard to recover and so ultimately I ended the friendship. And I still catch myself wondering if I was the bad friend. Anyway, I hate admitting any of this because I don't think we ever fully get over losing a really good friend. It's just a different kind of heartbreak and it still makes me sad. Now come back tomorrow for part three.
