I've spoken at my age gap relationship negatively affected me. Don't recommend it to young women. It affects the older man. Dating me when and I was 19. Last year of our relationship, we were in couples therapy. Honest in couples therapy. I told him directly to that while he, I would choose as a teenager, the person I am, an almost 30 year old woman. Old, I was excited to be, was nice to have a job. It didn't really matter to me that all he wanted to do was drink and watch anime, because at 19, that's also all I wanted to do. So while I had grown drastically, completely different person than who I was at 19. He was the exact same person at 45 that I had met when he was 32. So imagine being in your mid 40s and no longer in your physical prime, and really take care of yourself and having to start completely over. He also experienced extreme judgement from his friends and family. His guy friends were kind of like, eh, it's weird, but we're not gonna harp on it. The wives of his guy friends were extremely outspoken and judgemental to the point that I thought they hated me for like, absolutely no reason. When in actuality, they just understood that what he was doing was really fucking creepy. He would just kind of drop me off and they're like, are we supposed to do with this girl? Can't even get into the bar? Which now, as a 33 year old woman, I completely understand. I wouldn't know what the fuck to do with a 19 year old. I remember going to his family Christmas party and his cousin, who is a couple years older than me, just making constant remarks about our age gap and how fucking weird he was for that. Eventually I grew up. I was in my mid to late 20s, and they started to accept me as a human being. The commentary then became, oh, I was outgrowing him, both his family and my family. The commentary started to be, yeah, he's a nice guy, but he's not really a fit for you. Like, he's not very mature, he's not very driven, he's not clean. I'll often get the comment of, it's not an age gap problem, it's a maturity problem. Yeah, immature men date teenagers. People who like, just met us could tell pretty immediately that the age gap was really fucking wide. And practical strangers were being like, yeah, you two don't really make any sense together. So the risk as an older man dating a younger person is not gonna grow at the same trajectory as you. You made an educated choice to date them, but they did not make an educated choice to date you. Cause they literally don't know how they're gonna feel at 30 the way that you do. People in your life are going to judge you because the age gap is really crazy. They're gonna be like, like, why can't you date your own age? The risk of becoming single while you're much older is very, very high. I understand there are exceptions to every rule, but you're probably not the exception.
