I went from getting 2:2s in my first term of First year to getting a First in every essay in my penultimate and final year + 94% on my dissertation wasn’t because I suddenly became naturally good at academic writing 😭 Reference your claims. Make an argument instead of just describing the literature. Use evidence. Evaluate it. Challenge it. Link everything back to the question. THEN worry about making it sound academic. And very on brand for me: the essay I used as an example in these slides was literally about inequality in education 😂 - years later, I’m still talking about who gets to access education, who gets left behind, and why. I have so many more things I used to do to get Firsts, so I might turn this into a series.
