Last year, I posted about a school form that asked for “Mother” and “Father.” As if every child’s family fits into two little boxes. That post went viral. And this year? Our school caught up. ❤️ The forms now say “Parent/Guardian” and give families room to actually be the families they are. Because some kids have a mom and dad. Some have two moms. Some have two dads. Some live with grandparents, foster parents, aunts, uncles, or other people who love them fiercely. And some families look nothing like the one the person designing the form imagined. That doesn’t make them any less of a family. I don’t expect the world to change overnight. But I do believe it can change when we point out the places where people are being unintentionally left out. Last year, we pointed it out. This year, they listened. That’s progress. And I’m really glad my daughter gets to see it. ❤️
