Even water gives you reflux, and it's not the water. 🌿 If a plain sip burns, I know how confusing and defeating that feels. Here's what's usually happening, and it's real. When the tissue in your throat and esophagus is already inflamed and sensitized, the nerves there can misread a completely neutral sip as pain. That's visceral hypersensitivity, your system's volume dial turned way up. A 2016 paper on functional esophageal disorders described exactly this: symptoms generated by hypersensitivity and hypervigilance even when function looks normal or borderline. 📚 Aziz et al. 2016, Gastroenterology (PMID 27144625) For some people, that dial gets turned up further by histamine. When mast cells in the lining release histamine, they add to the inflammation and make those nerves even more reactive. A 2024 review mapped this neuroimmune loop, where mucosal inflammation and nerve sensitivity feed each other. 📚 Leech & Peiris 2024, J Gastroenterol (PMID 38221552). If higher-histamine foods seem to flare you, it's worth tracking and mentioning to your provider. Useful information, not a reason to fear food. Two levers help here: Calm the nervous system. Nervous System Snacks, 60 to 90 seconds of a long, slow exhale or soft humming. Soothe the irritated tissue. It's part of why I use Sequoia Soothe, my slippery elm and DGL blend, to soothe and coat that sensitized lining. Mucosal support, not a magic fix. If even water feels like a trigger, you're not broken. Your tissue is inflamed and your nervous system is loud, and both are workable. Head to the link in my bio to learn more about Sequoia Soothe. Follow for more. 💚 Small hinges swing big doors. 🌿 [water triggers reflux, esophageal hypersensitivity, histamine reflux, nervous system reflux, mucosal support] #AcidReflux #LPR #SilentReflux #GERD #RefluxRelief
