Hey y'all. My name's Shana and I'm a nursing instructor and I'm doing a series on nursing school survival, especially in the first couple weeks. This is day number one and today we're going to be talking about what to do after the first day of nursing school. First of all, I want you all to take a very deep breath, okay? I know it was probably overwhelming. The first day is orientation day usually where they go over all the stuff you're going to be expected to do, they talk about procedures and policies and all of these things and it can be extremely overwhelming. The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath, okay? And now let's get into what we actually need to do after we calm down a little bit. So the first thing is going to be fill out your planner, okay? Whether it's a paper planner or on your iPad or whatever, you need to write out everything in your planner. If you have multiple classes, take all the syllabi, all the course calendars, lay them out in front of you and fill out that planner, every single due date, every single thing needs to be put into your planner today, okay? Write down everything. The second thing is, once you've done that, don't sit there and stare at all of it and panic, okay? Once you've written it all down, put it away, okay? And then my third thing is get organized, okay? Folders, notebooks, binders, if you're going to have a specific notebook for each class or binders for each class, or if you want to set up a note-taking app, you want to set up a separate folder on your iPad for each class. Go ahead and get all that organized so you're ready to go, okay? Make sure you download any apps or resources that your instructor told you about during orientation, like if they told you about specific apps you're going to need, download them and all of that, okay? Next thing is make sure you know your passwords for everything. Write them down, put them in your phone if you can't remember them, okay? Because sometimes in nursing school, you're going to have like course point, ATI or whatever, different websites that you're going to need, Canvas, um, your test management system if your school uses one, all of these different things require passwords. So make sure you remember all of them and write them down somewhere so that you don't forget them because you're going to be stressed if you have an assignment due or you have to call IT or change your password or do all these crazy things. So just make sure you know all your passwords to all the different things you're going to have to have. And then the last thing I will say is start prepping for your next class. I know that seems overwhelming, but if you have your first content class, the next day, I would definitely go ahead and start preparing for that. If you have a PowerPoint that's already available to you, go through the PowerPoint and kind of look over it and prepare yourself for what class is going to be on the next day. So that you don't show up and you're just like completely overwhelmed with content already. So just start looking over the materials that your instructor has given you for that class. So that's after your first day. I promise once you get organized, your brain will just feel so much better with all that information and then get you a good evening of rest and a good night's sleep so that you can reset for the next day. And of course, if you'll need anything, let me know. I hope you all had a wonderful first day of class. Um, I know it's overwhelming, but you've got this. And of course, if you'll need anything, let me know. I hope you all had a wonderful first day of class. Um, I know it's overwhelming, but you've got this.
