So one day I'm working the bar and the person next to me gets slammed. He gets sat all and I look over his drinks come. So I run over the window. I run his drink and then I get obsessive and I'm like, "I'm just gonna run his drinks all night." As soon as his drink comes up, I'm running it up. Every time his drink would come up, I'd run over, boom, drop it off at run back to my section. A couple hours later, everything flips. I get sat all at once. He dies down. Now I'm running close out my section. I'm running the food, trying to prep my tables and I finally get to my drinks. The bar well with the great wall of drinks that I ran there so long that they're sweating and the tickets are turned to mush. That server that I'd been helping all night long being right here. He was like this far away, leaning on a wall, texting. My initial reaction was what? Frustration, anger. And now I'm angry. I have to retaliate. I have to exact revenge. How do I do that? I'm never helping them again. You're gonna say, "I should have Preston, that night, that lesson, such, such a profound lesson. Thank God he was there to teach me that." No, he's not gonna care. And I want you to think about that for a second. My mindset is that he obviously is working under slower standards than I think he should be. So my solution to that is to lower my standards. Does that make sense? Who does that affect the most? It's the guest. Yourself. Yourself, yes. Think about that mindset. It's crazy, guys, and a lot of people have in the restaurant industry. It's toxic. It only hurts your standards. It only lowers your worth. And your ego and pride in the way and saying, "No Preston, someone's taking advantage of you." Who's taking advantage of me? Because I'm working because I'm the hardest worker in the room. Because I'm proving it. Because I show up as the best version of myself because I practice being selfless. How is that someone taking advantage of me? That sounds like taking advantage of the situation. Big difference. And I'm not gonna dictate my standards, lower my worth. That's insane. Someone's lazy. What? Makes absolutely no sense. We have to have the right mindset. That transfers. You're not gonna be at the job that you always desperate for to get. The owner's gonna be like, "Did you ever run someone's drinks and they didn't run their drinks back and then they kept running their drinks?" People like that? Nope. No effect on your future whatsoever. What does have you hold your adversity when it's difficult, when it's frustrating. That's the difference. What was my commitment? Whoever hired me. Give the guest the best experience possible. That was my commitment. I'm holding that. I'm holding that.
