This one really hurts. Hayden Panettiere has passed away at just 36 years old. For so many of us who grew up in the 90s and 2000s, Hayden was just… always there. She was the little girl in Remember the Titans. She was in Raising Helen. She was the ice skater in Ice Princess. Then suddenly she was Claire Bennet on Heroes and “save the cheerleader, save the world” was everywhere. And later there was Nashville, Scream and so much more. It’s strange when someone from your childhood dies young. You didn’t know them. They didn’t know you. But they existed in the movies you watched over and over, the shows you rushed home to see, the commercials, magazines and random pieces of pop culture that made up a certain period of your life. And then you see that they’re gone at 36. Thirty-six. There are celebrity deaths that make you sad, and then there are ones that make you stare at your phone for a second because the person feels way too young and the memories feel way too recent. Hayden was only a year older than me. I keep thinking about how much life 36 is supposed to have left in it.
