Nobody warns you that parenting can bring parts of your own childhood right back to the surface. You can KNOW whining is developmentally normal. You can KNOW your child isn’t trying to make your life miserable. And still feel your entire body tense the second it starts. Because if you grew up with an emotionally unstable caretaker, you may have learned very early: Don’t whine. Don’t be too loud. Don’t have big feelings. Don’t need too much. Don’t make them upset. Maybe you became the “easy” kid. Maybe you learned to monitor everyone else’s mood before you even knew what a nervous system was. Maybe keeping the peace helped you feel safe. Then you have kids. And kids are loud. Needy. Repetitive. Emotional. Unpredictable. Suddenly the whining starts and something in you is screaming MAKE IT STOP. You snap. Then comes the guilt. “Why did I react like that?” “They’re just a kid.” “I promised myself I’d be different.” And now you’re not only triggered — you’re ashamed of being triggered. This isn’t the ONLY reason someone might struggle with whining. Sensory sensitivity, stress, exhaustion, lack of support, temperament and plain old overstimulation can all play a role. But if your reaction feels much bigger than the moment in front of you, sometimes it’s worth getting curious about what else your body thinks is happening. That’s the work I teach here. Understanding the past. Learning what to do when you’re activated. Changing the practical pieces of your life that keep draining your capacity. And building the self-trust, mindset and identity that help you actually enjoy your life and parenting experience — not just survive it. If you want to go deeper, I currently have: ✨ The Trigger Debrief — start understanding your triggers and interrupting the snap → guilt → shame cycle. ✨ The Overstimulated Parent Course — for building more capacity and understanding what’s happening underneath the overwhelm. ✨ Private mentorship — my deepest level of support for doing this work together over six months. Or just follow @TheTriggeredMomma. There is SO much free education here if you’re starting to realize, “Wait…maybe there’s a reason parenting feels this hard for me.” You’re allowed to understand yourself AND learn a different way forward. ❤️ #TheTriggeredMomma #ParentingTriggers #OverstimulatedMom #NervousSystemRegulation #CycleBreaking
