I was genuinely SCARED to put our sauces in a pouch...
Because 5 years ago, sauce came in a bottle. But there was a BIG reason we didn't
When we started developing sauces, we had a pretty clear brief
Less sugar.
No preservatives.
And still taste bloody delicious.
But that created a packaging curveball
Our product developers told us that if we wanted to make the sauce without preservatives, it needed to be filled into the packaging directly on site.
If we wanted the mainstream bottle, the product would need to be transported elsewhere for filling.
And transporting it to another site would mean we would have to use preservatives.
So... pouch it was
And I was NERVOUS...
People knew yogurt in pouches. Baby food in pouches. But TOMATO SAUCE?!
I genuinely wondered whether people would look at it on shelf and think... What is that?
Turns out, the thing I was worried about became one of our biggest assets!
Our pouch stands tall on shelf.
It looks completely different to the sea of bottles around it.
Today, you can spot a Mingle sauce pretty quickly
Although apparently not EVERYONE is ready to let go of the bottle
We've seen parents secretly refill the old familiar sauce bottle with Mingle to get it past their fussy little ones.
5 years later, I'm glad we stuck with this packaging.
What I was once nervous about has become something that makes us instantly recognisable on shelf.
I share this because the decisions that make you the most nervous are the very ones that end up setting you apart ❤️
