What "Sterling Point" Muskoka is ACTUALLY like

If you've been watching Sterling Point and you're wondering what Muskoka is actually like, I have all the answers. Let's break down what they got right and wrong in episode one, coming from a girl who spent every summer in Muskoka since I was born. Credentials. 1. There IS service/ wifi. Okay, starting off the biggest misconception in the entire show is the fact that there's no service in Muskoka. There's cellular data basically everywhere and most cottages have wifi. So, I'm assuming the only reason that they're saying there's no service is because it's going to be part of the plot later, but I'm only on episode one, so I don't know. You guys. Okay, next up, people do not take float planes up here very often. There are a couple really wealthy cottagers who will take their float planes, but 99.9% of the time, people are driving up from Toronto. So if they're coming from out of town, they'll fly to Toronto and then drive up here. Most people from Muskoka are from Ontario and they'll just drive up here. On top of that, people do not use float planes to get to their islands. They park their cars at a landing and then boat out. There's a couple different landings and marinas on different lakes. But essentially you'll drive up here, you'll park your car at the marina, get in your boat, boat to your island, and then to leave, boat back to the marina, leave your boat there, get in your car. I personally live on an island, so I do this like every day. But also all summer I barely even use my car because there's grocery stores, restaurants, clubs, all accessible by boat. 3. Old Muskoka vs New Development. Okay, one thing that they did get right is kind of like the vibes of having locals, tourists and then like the wealthy people. My family's been in Muskoka for 80 plus years. I know so many families who've had cottages for 100 plus years. But there is a lot of new money and a lot of new development in Muskoka. This almost like a little bit of tension between the two because the old Muskoka families like to keep Muskoka the way it is, more or less, and are more conscious about like the environment, wildlife, etc. and kind of preserving that old Muskoka vibe. But there are a lot of people coming in and developing these massive, like mega mansions on the lake. 4. Celebrities. I will say something that I thought was really cool is that they mentioned Kyle Gerb. I can see the back of her cottage from my dock right now. It is true that there are so many celebrities that are up here. A lot of famous people kind of use Muskoka as an escape because there really isn't any like paparazzi or stuff up here. I worked at a restaurant up here for six summers and the amount of actors, singers, professional athletes we've had coming in is crazy. The other day I went to grab lunch after my workout and ended up sitting at two tables over from Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Lastly, I will say that the party scene was decent. Accurate. There are a lot of dock parties, darties, like people will pull up and drive their boats to parties. The overall vibe just was like something that could be happening up here. I do something like that with my friends all the time. Anyways, that's it for episode one.
