Who the hell is Chanty Beluga? Is probably what a lot of you are thinking. So here's everything we know about Miss Chanty. You who are not chronically online, Chanty Beluga is the newest social media star and topic of conversation at the moment, with Chanty being created by 31-year-old comedian Courtney O'Donnell. So yes, not her real name, already catch on. So where did Chanty Beluga come from? Well, the account originally started as an inside joke among Courtney and a few of her friends, essentially coming out during a late 4:00 AM improv session on the set of her indie film, Stephanie Bride to Be. Courtney randomly introduced herself as Chanty and then added "Beluga" to the end of it. It seemed to stick, and everyone in the room was losing it. She then went home and posted her first video as the character, and people seemed to connect with it pretty immediately, leading her to start building out a dedicated account where Chanty Beluga is now taking off on by multiple outlets. What does Chanty Beluga actually do? Well, she's just a cheerful millennial woman who ends up in these very mundane situations where she has to say her name out loud, like when she's scheduling a doctor's appointment, browsing a gift shop where they don't have a keychain with her name on it. Or my favorite, going up to a group of strangers and introducing herself as Chanty Beluga, and everyone remains silent, like it is so awkward. I cackled. So all these videos just show Courtney as Chanty saying her name in these pretty normal situations, occasionally followed up by a punchline that is so funny. Chanty Beluga is rapidly growing so rapidly that fan accounts have sprung up all over the internet with her friends thinking that she was making them herself. That's how quickly this is all happening. Now, there's an entire fake lore ecosystem with accounts claiming that Chanty owes them money, that she hit them with a car, has done some terrible things. But none of it's real. It's all a bit. So why she thinks it's taking off?
