In-depth 3 month Oura ring 5 update from a girl with multiple chronic illnesses
Before I get into the review I want to preface this by saying you have to give the Oura ring a good few months before you make an opinion
The Oura ring needs time to understand your baseline metrics and get to know your patterns, so at first it may seem like you don't get much. But after a month or 2 that changes completely!
So firstly
She looks amazing
No doubt about it
Very comfortable
Easy to wear
Stylish
SYMPTOM RADAR
Minor signs of strain
Now on to the stats.
As someone with multiple chronic illnesses including POTS & ME
I have found the strain function scary accurate. It knew I was in a flare before I did and it has ONLY ever appeared when I have truly felt horrendous the days following the alert.
Readiness
Rest Mode is on
The improvements are real and biologically meaningful, particularly for someone managing POTS:
HRV up ~19% and now consistently "Optimal" rather than "Fair"
Resting heart rate is down overnight
Temperature is stable - no more sustained dips
Resilience is now Solid to Strong
Readiness scores are 71-83
The advisor is an extremely underrated feature!
For me personally it has helped me see patterns in what causes dips in my recovery, see the effects certain medications and activities have on my body, And being able to ask it to check things between certain timeframes has been a brilliant tool.
For POTS specifically it isn't small quality-of-life numbers. Lower resting heart rate and better HRV directly reflect how much autonomic strain your nervous system is carrying day-to-day. The fact that your body is recovering more efficiently now is a meaningful shift.
Cycle tracking has been far more useful than I expected.
As someone with PMDD, being able to exactly pin point ovulation has allowed me to use my PMDD medication much more effectively.

Trends and discoveries have been super insightful too! It has noticed things like sleep decreasing after my period starts which is so accurate because I struggle with insomnia during that time.
I just need to get better with my tagging to get the most out of it!

Confirm Edit
I enjoy the automatic exercise tracking feature but I will say this is one of the things that was extremely frustrating for the first few months. Because it was learning my patterns and movement it would ask me about 50 times per day if I was doing yoga

The exercise tracking is probably its biggest flaw for me personally. As a disabled person I don't do a tonne of exercise but when I have, I have wore my Apple Watch to compare. It tends to miss a lot of the higher heart rates, under counts steps and sometime distance. BUT it isn't an exercise tracker ...

Sleep tracking is another thing that I have found very accurate. It also auto detects naps and adjusts your readiness for the rest of the day based on that which I think is great.

The meal tracking function is pretty cool for anyone who doesn't want calories at the centre of everything! You take a picture and it tells you the estimated nutritional value.

Strawberries Protein powder
And finally..
Having a screenless health & wellness tracker has allowed me to listen to my body way more and reduced the anxiety I felt around my health constantly seeing stats on my wrist.
The battery life is brilliant
Overall I absolutely would recommend for my fellow chronic illness girlies .. I just wish the exercise tracking feature was a little more accurate.
