Parents, I think we need to rethink this. One of the biggest mistakes we can make is telling university students: “Just focus on school. We'll take care of everything else.” I understand the intention. You want your child to concentrate on their degree and graduate with good grades. But university is also the perfect time to learn how to work, earn, communicate, solve problems, network and take responsibility. Let them find internships. Let them freelance. Let them build businesses. Let them learn high-income skills. Let them make mistakes while the consequences are still manageable. Because after graduation, the world doesn't ask: “Did you get good grades?” It asks: “What can you do?” And if someone spends four years only learning how to pass exams, they may graduate with a degree but very little experience navigating the real world. Your child doesn't have to choose between university and building a career. They can do both. Let them study. But let them build, work, earn and learn along the way. The goal isn't just to help them graduate. The goal is to prepare them for life after graduation.
