Every parent I know is saving for college. Here's why I'm not.
Transcript
I toured a school today and it was $40,000 a year for kindergarten. And the craziest part is that I left and I kind of got it. Not because I think everyone should do that, but because it really made me realize something that I just haven't been able to shake. I do not think that college, the way we know it today, is going to matter much for my kids at all. They're two and four years old. By the time they're 18, AI is going to change everything. So I keep asking myself, why are we still planning like the goal is to get into a good college? We do not even know what that world looks like anymore. Because if AI can do the memorizing, the writing, the analyzing, what actually matters? And these are the things that I keep coming back to: confidence, ability to think for yourself, ability to communicate clearly, being able to figure out things when there isn't a clear answer. And all of those things, honestly, you don't learn from the ages of 19 and 22. That development starts very young. So I don't know the right answer here, but what I do know is I'm thinking way less about where they're going to go to college and way more about who are they becoming right now. If you're a parent and this has been on your mind lately, I would just love to know how you're thinking about this.

Saving for college and saving for your children’s future are two different things. I have every investment account you can think of set up for my kids. But I’ve never called it “college money.” I call it their money, for whatever world they’re walking into. And lately? That mindset is shifting how I think about where the real investment should go. I’m starting to believe the better bet is advanced early education. Getting ahead now. Because the children who get access to the right environment, the right thinking, the right skills early, they will be in a different category entirely by the time they’re adults. The traditional school system was built for a world that is changing faster than it can keep up. And the gap between kids who are prepared for what’s coming and kids who aren’t is only going to widen. So yes, I toured a school today. $40K a year. Starting in kindergarten. And I left thinking it might be one of the smartest financial decisions I ever make. #parenting #PersonalFinance
