Hey y'all, so the boys have baseball practice tonight so we are cooking up a super easy dinner that all of my kids and my husband eat. And I'm gonna show you guys all the ingredients you need and how I cook it. You're gonna need two pounds of ground beef. I did lean ground beef. I just buy the big pack and then separate them per pound in a bag. That's why I have two. And then you're gonna need two cans of corn or any vegetable that you choose. My kids prefer corn. I did say that this is quick, this is easy. So you're gonna need two bags of the buttery homestyle mashed potatoes. You absolutely can make homemade mashed potatoes if you would like. I do that sometimes, but tonight we are not. You need two packets of brown gravy. And some cheese. Also do yourself a favor and grab yourself a throwaway pan. You're gonna preheat your oven to 350. I have guessed by now, but tonight we're cooking shepherd's pie for dinner. The last time I posted, I was cooking shepherd's pie on here. The internet went crazy because apparently this is called cottage pie. I was raised my whole entire life calling this shepherd's pie. If you prefer to call it cottage pie, that's totally fine. I will not be using lamb or goat, but we're using hamburger meat. You're just gonna start by putting your two pounds of ground beef in the pan, season it how you would like. I am using garlic salt and pepper. You're just gonna cook your hamburger meat until it's completely done. While your hamburger meat is cooking, you're just gonna start boiling your water. For those two packets of mashed potatoes, you need eight cups of water. So I got eight cups of water coming to a boil. The meat has cooked and all the fat drained. Now we're gonna add in our two packets of brown gravy and two cups of water. You're just gonna mix it up really good. Season it one more time. And let the meat soak up the gravy. I'm just gonna put the lid on it and let it simmer. Now my water is about to boil, so we're gonna mix up the mashed potatoes. I thought I was recording when I guess I wasn't. My water came to a boil, so I just mixed in my two packets of the potatoes. These are my absolute favorite instant mashed potatoes. But you can definitely make homemade mashed potatoes if you prefer that. If I have more time, I will do homemade mashed potatoes, but we're just doing a quick dinner for tonight. So we're doing the instant. I added a little bit of butter to make them creamier. A little bit of garlic salt to make them like garlic mashed potatoes. Don't judge my can opener. Me and Logan got this at our housewarming party and it has been with us through every phase of life. Sometimes she doesn't want to work, but she gets the job done. I just leave it attached a little bit because I'm gonna drain the water out of the corn. Okay, so you're gonna grab your finest casserole dish and you're gonna pour the corn on the bottom. I did drain my corn by the way. I'm gonna go see if I can find another can of corn because I feel like I could definitely use one more can. Okay, perfect. I did have one more can. So I'm gonna add one more can to the bottom. Kind of flatten it out. Season your corn a little bit. The meat has soaked up the gravy really nicely. So we're gonna pour that on top of the corn. Spread it out evenly. And then you're gonna add your mashed potatoes on top. I just throw little dollops of mashed potatoes all over it and then I start spreading it out and if I feel like I need more, I'll add more. The kids' favorite part, so I don't go light on that. I'm gonna spread it out really good. All right, we got our mashed potatoes in there. Now it's time for the cheese. I use sharp cheddar. You can use any kind that you would like. I'm gonna add a generous amount of cheese. The melted cheese on top to me just ties it all together. All right, now that everything is in the pan, you're just gonna throw a little bit of aluminum foil over the top and pop it in the oven. Everything is cooked, so I'm just letting the cheese melt on top. I'll take the aluminum foil off in a few minutes and then let the cheese crisp up a little bit. It doesn't have to stay on there long enough to melt the cheese basically. But once that's done, I think I'm gonna make some biscuits with it and I'll show you guys the final product. I am going to cook some biscuits with it. I just sprayed my baking sheet with some cooking spray. And I'm just gonna place them on here. And pop them in the oven. Dinner is served. And now we're heading out the door to baseball practice. Love y'all.
