Houston is getting more representation of Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine, and one of the newest restaurants bringing those flavors is Flor y Miel 🇩🇴🇵🇷 The restaurant comes from Chef Florangel “Flo” Polanco, who was born in the Dominican Republic, grew up around both Dominican and Puerto Rican cooking, and later became James Harden’s private chef before working at his former Houston restaurant, Thirteen. Flor y Miel first built a following as a Houston food truck before opening its permanent location. What to order: • Oxtail Empanada — tender, slow-cooked oxtail tucked inside a crisp, flaky shell • Tostones Rellenos — crunchy plantain cups filled with protein, avocado and pickled onions • Mofongo — mashed green plantains with garlic, paired here with crispy chicharrón de pollo • Chofan — smoky Dominican-style fried rice wok-tossed with garlic, vegetables and house salsa china • Tres Leches — soft, creamy and the perfect way to finish 📍 Flor y Miel 4705 Inker St, Houston, TX #houstonfood #houstonrestaurants #carribeanfood #dominicanfood
