Overreaching is one of the most common mistakes in freestyle. And the worst part is most swimmers don't even feel like they're doing it. Some coaches even teach it as the right way. It's not. 👉 Here's what actually happens when you overreach. ❌ You over rotate your body and sink lower in the water. ❌ Your elbow enters the water first instead of your fingers. ❌ That means your elbow is already dropped before you even start your catch. 🔴 And if your elbow is dropped at entry, a high elbow catch becomes almost impossible. And without a good catch, everything after it is irrelevant. 👉 Here's what a perfect entry looks like. 1️⃣ Enter in line with your shoulder. Not across your centerline. Not too wide. Exactly in line with your shoulder. 2️⃣ Keep your entering arm on the same level as your gliding arm. Not pointing up. Not pointing down. 3️⃣ Fingers enter first. Wrist second. Elbow last. ✅ This puts you in the perfect position to go straight into a high elbow catch and pull maximum water every single stroke. 🎯 If you want to know exactly what your entry looks like right now, film yourself on your phone and send it inside the Swim Success Training app. I'll personally review your stroke and tell you exactly what to fix first.
