Here’s what to do when you outshine your boss. Realize what you are dealing with. A good boss with help you grow and let you shine Don’t ever make it obvious that you know you are better or think you are better. Just let your light shine Bring them along with you. When appropriate, connect your wins to the team or your boss rather than making every success look completely independent of them. Give them some credit publicly. Even a small, genuine shout-out can signal, “I see you as part of my success.” Something like, “That conversation with Chris helped me think about this differently.” Ask for their perspective. Even when you have a strong idea, occasionally bring them in with, “I’m thinking about approaching it this way. What do you think?” It gives them a sense that they're still part of the process. Don't surprise them. If you're building relationships with senior leaders or getting visibility elsewhere, keep your boss informed. You don't want them hearing about your conversations or opportunities from someone else. Find small ways to demonstrate trust. The message you're trying to send is: “I'm not going around you. I'm not trying to take your job. I'm not trying to outshine you. We're on the same team.” Make them look good when you can. Your performance can actually increase their status if they see your success as something that reflects well on their leadership. Stay excellent. Don't shrink. PS don’t be that person that deliberately tries to make people look bad. Stay humble and remember you can always learn. #corporatelife #highachiever #careeradvice #careergrowth #worklife
