You remember GoPro, right? The stock hit $93 bucks in like 2014 and it's under a dollar today. GoPro is currently valued between roughly $110 million and $185 million, marking a massive drop from its peak market value of $13 billion in 2014. The whole company is like 185 million bucks. And they've hired bankers, and they have defense buyers circling. It's become like a distressed target. But I wouldn't have put on my list who would have stepped up to the table. You know him, right? He's got 38 million YouTube subscribers at this point. Last year he self-financed Iron Lung, the horror movie that he put $3 million bucks up for. Every studio passed on Iron Lung. It grossed 51 million dollars. He distributed himself and it opened up number one doing 51 million bucks the first weekend. Cold killer. Well now, YouTube Star Markiplier is now GoPro's largest shareholder. He's GoPro's largest individual shareholder. He bought 13.5 million shares for like 9 million bucks. Owns now 8.5% of the company. Markiplier bets $9.3M on GoPro, becoming its biggest shareholder. YouTube Star Markiplier becomes GoPro's largest shareholder with 8.5% stake. And I'm good on the sponsorship. Nah, I don't need an ambassador deal. The stock. Markiplier bets $9.3M on GoPro, becoming its biggest shareholder. Based on, he can actually run the place because GoPro's stock are dual class. He bought Class A where he gets 1 vote per share. GoPro CEO Nicholas Woodman to finance $20M via senior secured notes and warrants. And CEO Nick Woodman's family trust has 25 million of Class B shares where it's a share. So Woodman controls about two-thirds of the vote himself. Markiplier's 8.5% is 3% of the vote. Oh, and he filed passive. That he's not trying to steer the company. If I'm being honest, I'd probably went the other way. I mean Ryan Cohen bought into GameStop, filed as an activist, forced his way onto the board and ended up running the company. That would have been the play. I think Markiplier thinks he can like talk them into something. Trying to talk to GoPro team to innovate after they've had one product since like 2004. Sounds kind of like a losing battle to me. But hey, I'm just a spectator on the sidelines here. With this company on the chopping block. GoPro Searches for a Lifeline as It Lost $51 Million Last Quarter. GoPro probably ends up more on a defense drone before it becomes on a film set. But either way, this deal speaks to an happening right. How A Brand Deal Works. You get paid once and the upside to someone else. How A Brand Deal Works. But equity. Equity. And I can. YouTube Star Markiplier Is Now GoPro's Largest Shareholder. Definitely agree on one thing. If you're the reason why a product gets cool again, you're going to want a bit of what that thing's worth.
