We’ve got a new Government Cost of Living taskforce. But what does announcing one actually change for your household? Right now, the important distinction is between an announcement, a policy that’s actually been confirmed, and something that genuinely changes what comes into — or goes out of — your household. I’m not going to automatically dismiss a taskforce as pointless. And I’m not going to pretend announcing one means the cost-of-living problem has been solved either. WANPY’s test is much simpler: Who benefits? By how much? And when? Does more money come in? Does an essential cost come down? Does your household actually have more breathing room?
