A TV star with more than 2.5 million Instagram followers is now facing death by hanging in Egypt. Sarah Khalifa is one of 12 defendants sentenced to death in a sweeping synthetic drug case involving 28 people accused of running an organized manufacturing and trafficking network. Authorities say investigators seized more than 750 kilograms, roughly 1,653 pounds, of synthetic narcotics and raw materials, while prosecutors relied on witness testimony, messages, photos and videos to build the case. Khalifa, a former TV host and beauty clinic owner, was arrested in Cairo in April 2025. Nine other defendants received life sentences and seven were acquitted.
