In breaststroke, the general rule is simple. Arms first. Kick second. Then glide. 👉 But how long you glide changes everything. 🔴 Glide too long and you lose all your momentum. You waste energy rebuilding speed from scratch every single stroke. 🔴 Don't glide enough and you never let your body recover between strokes. You burn out fast. 👉 Here's the key rule that most swimmers miss. ✅ The moment your arms reach a full streamline position, kick immediately. Don't wait. Don't pause. Arms into streamline, then kick straight away. 🔵 That connection between your streamline and your kick is where all your speed lives in breaststroke. 👉 After the kick, you can glide. And this is where you make a decision. 1️⃣ If you want to swim easy and save energy. ✅ Glide longer after the kick. Let yourself coast until you feel your speed dropping. Then start a new stroke. 2️⃣ If you want to swim fast. ✅ After the kick, make your streamline and go straight into the next stroke. Almost no glide. Just momentum carrying you forward into the next rep. 🔵 Either way, your streamline has to be sharp every single time. A sloppy streamline kills your glide no matter how good your kick is. 👉 Glide is not rest in breaststroke. It's a tool. Use it to control exactly how fast you want to go and how long you want to last. 🎯 Inside the Swim Success Training app you will find a full video breakdown of breaststroke technique in our video library covering every detail of the stroke including the glide, the kick, and the pull.
