Hot people get hired faster. Here are a couple pieces of my advice that you all hate but are backed by research and science. Number one, there is a strong beauty bias in corporate hiring, which means the hotter you are, the faster you get hired. It is actually a better investment to get plastic surgery than to go to grad school. I'm not even kidding. I wish I were. And it doesn't mean that if you don't think that you're beautiful, that you're not gonna get a job. It just means that you need to work on looking your best. If you're looking for a job, you need to spend some time getting hotter. Number two, there is a very strong affinity group bias in corporate hiring, which means hiring managers prefer the people that they know. And don't we all? We all prefer our friends over strangers. So you need to work on getting referred into organizations. But when I tell you to network, you tell me you don't have a network. Everyone has a network. Talk to your friends, your family, your neighbors, your cousins. And don't keep your job search a secret. No. 3. Ageism is very real and starts in corporate hiring in your mid 40s. So if you're looking for a job and you're thinking, man, it's never been this bad before, maybe that's because you're in your forties. And the sad reality is there aren't many things you can do to protect yourself from ageism, there are a few resume tricks. You can make sure that you're not using an out of date email address. You can take your college graduation date off of your resume. But there really isn't much you can do to combat ageism. I mean, except for making sure that you're hot and well connected.
