For each letter I explicitly teach, I include a short hands on, multisensory lesson. For the letter C, I use laminated C Road Mats. After we learn the capital and lowercase C, how each is formed, and the letter sound, students head to the tables with a mat and a car. They start at the top, drive the car along the C road, and repeat, “C says /k/,” as they trace the letter over and over. And yes, this only lasts about two minutes. That’s intentional. It’s a quick, focused way to practice the correct formation and sound before moving on.
