Here’s one of my favorite fall art ideas with so many preschool skills. First, each student paints an entire sheet of paper orange. You can even add a little color mixing by offering different shades of orange or letting students mix in white, red, or yellow to create their own unique hue. Let the paintings dry overnight. The next day, turn the paper over and have students use a pencil to draw one large circle on the back. Then they cut out their circle, giving them great practice with scissor skills. Since we work on shapes at the beginning of the year, this is also an easy way to build in shape review. Ask students what shapes they would like to use for the eyes and nose. Add a mouth and let them choose how many teeth they want, then have them count the teeth when they are finished. Add a green rectangle for the stem and you have a simple fall art project that works on color mixing, shapes, fine motor skills, scissor skills, creativity, and counting. I love how different every single pumpkin turns out.
