I got a DM yesterday from a social media manager pitching their services to me with their pricing included. And while I didn’t require the services, I saw their pricing and my heart sank a little. As a Kenyan social media manager, I fully get it because when starting out I experienced this fear a lot. The feeling of “maybe if I price lower, they’ll say yes faster.” And I’ll honestly say that this is both an industry problem and a market problem, especially here in Kenya where social media management is still “fighting” to be recognized as an actual career. But let me say this clearly: social media management is a real, globally recognized career. And if you have spent years building your craft, your skill and your process, you deserve to be paid for the exact value you bring. Here’s what I factor into my pricing: ✨ Years of experience - The time I’ve spent building my expertise has a value. It took years to know what I know and do what I do at this level. ✨ My process - For instance, before I create a single post, I research your industry, your competitors and your audience. I build a full social media strategy. That process takes time and lots of my expertise too. ✨ Number of platforms being managed - Every platform I manage is additional work, additional strategy and additional expertise. ✨ Package scope - How many posts per month? What content formats? Community management? Analytics reporting? Monthly strategy calls? Every element adds to the scope and the pricing reflects that. ✨ The results I deliver - I’m not just posting content for the sake of it. I’m coming in as a strategic partner to grow a brand. I’m concerned about how my efforts on social media are reflecting in the overall business growth and for me, that outcome matters. Fellow Kenyan & African social media managers, understand your value first, then price from that place. You deserve to be paid your worth but ensure you can prove it too. Save this for the next time you’re tempted to undercharge and share it with another social media manager who needs it. ❤️ #socialmediamanager #socialmediatipsforbusiness #smmpricingstrategy #socialmediamanagertips #africansocialmediamanager
